The Manual for Tool & Die Apprentices by Pete Ashton [email]

Introduction i

My name is Peter Ashton and the reason I felt it necessary to write this manual is simple. I have been in this trade for a long time and seen allot of mistakes. Usually from a high expectation on the Employers part when they hire an Apprentice, I've noticed that Employers in this day and age are not necessarily Tool Makers so they may not really know the proper Apprentice to Employer relationship. It seems they believe that Apprentices are taught in school. Well, as any Apprentice will tell you, school only teaches you the bare minimum like machining, hand tools, measuring tools, safety and maybe touch on welding.
I do recommend that an Apprentice starts in school because you have a lot to learn before you step on a shop floor.
I've also seen a lot of management and engineering flaws as well, but for some reason the blame always trickles down to the Apprentice and I don't think this is right. Thus Peter Ashtons manual, use it as a reference to squeak through your apprenticeship until you can get a good solid Tool Maker or Leader Position. Good Luck.
